Can Electric Motorcycles Be Registered?

Aug 20, 2025

Of course they can. Electric motorcycles are motor vehicles. According to the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China, motor vehicles must be registered with the traffic management department of the public security bureau before they can be driven on the road. Therefore, electric motorcycles must be registered to be legally driven on the road.

To register, you'll need to prepare necessary documents, such as the motor vehicle sales invoice, compulsory motor vehicle traffic accident liability insurance, the vehicle's factory certificate of conformity, a vehicle purchase tax payment certificate (tax-exempt vehicles require a tax-exempt certificate), and the owner's original ID card. Furthermore, if the vehicle has any added or modified parts, they must be removed before registration to ensure that the vehicle information is consistent with the information filed with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In addition, registration policies and procedures may vary by region. It is recommended that you consult your local vehicle management office or traffic police department for specific requirements and procedures before registering your vehicle.
